Pupil Premium Report

Immanuel and St Andrew’s commitment to pupils eligible for the pupil premium has its starting point in the Christian Gospel, which recognises the uniqueness and value of the individual and which touches every area of human need.

Christ’s ministry is characterised by His openness to, and concern for, each person, in particular those needing support.

Immanuel and St Andrew offers a positive, safe learning environment for its community, in which everyone has equal and individual recognition and respect. We celebrate success and are committed to the continuous improvement and fulfilment of potential and capacity in every child.

 Objectives of Pupil Premium Spending

When making decisions about using pupil premium funding it is important to consider the context of the school and the subsequent challenges faced.

Our key objective in using the Pupil Premium Grant is to diminish the differences in attainment between pupil groups. Through targeted interventions we are working to eliminate barriers to learning and progress. For children who start school with low attainment on entry, our aim is to ensure that they make excellent progress in order to reach expected standards as they move through the school and to fulfil their potential.

Our belief is – and research evidence shows (e.g. The Sutton Trust, John Hattie) – that the quality of teaching and learning is the most important factor in the achievement of all pupils. This is particularly true for pupils from less affluent backgrounds – if the teaching and learning is of the highest quality it will have the biggest positive effect on these pupils.

Outstanding teaching and learning remains a consistent and relentless focus of the school. Quality First teaching is the focus of our staff training, support from the senior leadership team and the teacher’s and support staff’s work during the normal school day. In addition to this, for children who need more time and/or support to ensure they fulfil their potential (which may be for a multitude of reasons) additional targeted intervention and support strategies are provided.
