Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and employees. The decision to close the school will be made by the Headteacher. The school will only be closed if one or more of the following conditions apply:

  1. Insufficient staff are able to come in to keep the school running safely. Before the school can be opened, the Headteacher must be confident that not only teachers and teaching assistants are able to get to school, but that the kitchen staff and a sufficient number of first aiders, fire marshals and premises staff are also on site.
  2. Conditions on site are dangerous. This includes a judgement on whether the roads are clear enough for emergency services to be able to attend the site if needed.
  3. Conditions are considered to be or are anticipated to later become too hazardous to travel.

Inclement weather can be defined as snow, ice and fog, which renders journeys extremely hazardous. The definition of “extremely hazardous” includes those conditions in which the appropriate authorities advise people not to make unnecessary journeys or indeed travel at all.
